Romans 13:1-2

Submission to Governing Authorities: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) was founded in 1977 in Rio de Janeiro by Bishop Edir Macedo. His rapidly growing religious movement and his teaching of prosperity theology have made him one of the most influential figures in the country. In the words of Bishop Macedo in his book Power Plan, God has a political plan for the faithful of the UCKG and for its evangelical allies: to rule Brazil. Having Macedo as a main character, the work depicts a dystopian future in which the Evangelical Forces have taken power and established a totalitarian regime. Imagining Brazil ruled by the Evangelical State, with the Internet being heavily controlled, it would be only through a computer terminal that one would have access to an “illegal” data bank with uncensored information. Made out of found footage, this fictional narrative suggests the extinction of Brazil, the institution of the ES and its apocalyptical consequences.
